Lord, save me by your power from those whose reward is in this life. They have plenty of food. They have many sons and leave much money to their children.

Look at the birds in the air. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. And you know that you are worth much more than the birds.

He thought to himself, ‘What will I do? I have no place to keep all my crops.’

Then I can say to myself, “I have enough good things stored to last for many years. Rest, eat, drink, and enjoy life!” ’

“This is how it will be for those who store up things for themselves and are not rich toward God.”

Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest, they don’t have storerooms or barns, but God feeds them. And you are worth much more than birds.

That kind of “wisdom” does not come from God but from the world. It is not spiritual; it is from the devil.

So you should say, “If the Lord wants, we will live and do this or that.”
