Later Jesus showed himself to the eleven apostles while they were eating, and he criticized them because they had no faith. They were stubborn and refused to believe those who had seen him after he had risen from the dead.

Jesus answered, “You people have no faith. How long must I stay with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”

The angel answered him, “I am Gabriel. I stand before God, who sent me to talk to you and to tell you this good news.

Outside, the people were still waiting for Zechariah and were surprised that he was staying so long in the Temple.

When Zechariah came outside, he could not speak to them, and they knew he had seen a vision in the Temple. He could only make signs to them and remained unable to speak.

You are blessed because you believed that what the Lord said to you would really happen.”

Immediately Zechariah could talk again, and he began praising God.

If some Jews were not faithful to him, will that stop God from doing what he promised?

If we are not faithful, he will still be faithful, because he must be true to who he is.

That faith and that knowledge come from the hope for life forever, which God promised to us before time began. And God cannot lie.

These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when he makes a promise, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath. These things encourage us who came to God for safety. They give us strength to hold on to the hope we have been given.

“I correct and punish those whom I love. So be eager to do right, and change your hearts and lives.
