Leviticus 25:10

New Century Version

Make the fiftieth year a special year, and announce freedom for all the people living in your country. This time will be called Jubilee. You will each go back to your own property, each to your own family and family group.

May God be with all of you who are his people. You are free to go to Jerusalem in Judah and build the Temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, who is in Jerusalem.

He does what is fair for those who have been wronged. He gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free.

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt where you were slaves.

You will tell the prisoners, ‘Come out of your prison.’ You will tell those in darkness, ‘Come into the light.’ The people will eat beside the roads, and they will find food even on bare hills.

I chose a time to punish people, and the time has come for me to save.

All the officers and all the people accepted this agreement; they agreed to free their male and female slaves and no longer keep them as slaves. So all the slaves were set free.

The Lord spoke his word to Jeremiah. This was after King Zedekiah had made an agreement with all the people in Jerusalem to free all the Hebrew slaves.

But if the ruler gives a gift from his land to any of his servants, that land will belong to the servant only until the year of freedom. Then the land will go back to the ruler. Only the ruler’s sons may keep a gift of land from the ruler.

The fiftieth year will be a special time for you to celebrate. Don’t plant seeds, or harvest the crops that grow by themselves, or gather grapes from the vines that are not trimmed.

In the year of Jubilee you each must go back to your own property.

Then he may leave you, take his children, and go back to his family and the land of his ancestors.

“ ‘Even if no one buys him back, at the year of Jubilee, he and his children will become free.

The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

She is like Mount Sinai in Arabia and is a picture of the earthly city of Jerusalem. This city and its people are slaves to the law.

My brothers and sisters, God called you to be free, but do not use your freedom as an excuse to do what pleases your sinful self. Serve each other with love.

Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Live as servants of God.
