Then he will punish those who do not know God and who do not obey the Good News about our Lord Jesus Christ.

They say they know God, but their actions show they do not accept him. They are hateful people, they refuse to obey, and they are useless for doing anything good.

The Israelites served the Lord during the lifetime of Joshua and during the lifetimes of the elders who lived after Joshua who had seen what the Lord had done for Israel.

Now Eli’s sons were evil men; they did not care about the Lord.
