They answered, “We say you are a Samaritan and have a demon in you. Are we not right?”

The people answered, “A demon has come into you. We are not trying to kill you.”

They said to Jesus, “Now we know that you have a demon in you! Even Abraham and the prophets died. But you say, ‘Whoever obeys my teaching will never die.’

Many of them said, “A demon has come into him and made him crazy. Why listen to him?”

The woman said, “I am surprised that you ask me for a drink, since you are a Jewish man and I am a Samaritan woman.” (Jewish people are not friends with Samaritans.)

You are hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he said about you:

When the Pharisees heard this, they said, “Jesus uses the power of Beelzebul, the ruler of demons, to force demons out of people.”

A student should be satisfied to become like his teacher; a servant should be satisfied to become like his master. If the head of the family is called Beelzebul, then the other members of the family will be called worse names!

Jesus sent out these twelve men with the following order: “Don’t go to the non-Jewish people or to any town where the Samaritans live.

You believe there is one God. Good! But the demons believe that, too, and they tremble with fear.

Even Christ did not live to please himself. It was as the Scriptures said: “When people insult you, it hurts me.”

You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that is what I am.

He was hated and rejected by people. He had much pain and suffering. People would not even look at him. He was hated, and we didn’t even notice him.

The Lord who saves you is the Holy One of Israel. He speaks to the one who is hated by the people, to the servant of rulers. This is what he says: “Kings will see you and stand to honor you; great leaders will bow down before you, because the Lord can be trusted. He is the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

So let us go to Jesus outside the camp, holding on as he did when we are abused.

So I tell you, people can be forgiven for every sin and everything they say against God. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

John came and did not eat or drink like other people. So people say, ‘He has a demon.’

Here is the truth John told when the leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, “Who are you?”

So the Jews asked, “Will he kill himself? Is that why he said, ‘You cannot come where I am going’?”
