Then Jesus answered, “I chose all twelve of you, but one of you is a devil.”

As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered him. Jesus said to him, “The thing that you will do—do it quickly.”

Jesus and his followers were at the evening meal. The devil had already persuaded Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to turn against Jesus.

While I was with them, I kept them safe by the power of your name, the name you gave me. I protected them, and only one of them, the one worthy of destruction, was lost so that the Scripture would come true.

“I am not talking about all of you. I know those I have chosen. But this is to bring about what the Scripture said: ‘The man who ate at my table has turned against me.’

But some of you don’t believe.” (Jesus knew from the beginning who did not believe and who would turn against him.)

The devil has been sinning since the beginning, so anyone who continues to sin belongs to the devil. The Son of God came for this purpose: to destroy the devil’s work.

In the same way, women must be respected by others. They must not speak evil of others. They must be self-controlled and trustworthy in everything.

If you belonged to the world, it would love you as it loves its own. But I have chosen you out of the world, so you don’t belong to it. That is why the world hates you.

You did not choose me; I chose you. And I gave you this work: to go and produce fruit, fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you anything you ask for in my name.

After Jesus said this, he was very troubled. He said openly, “I tell you the truth, one of you will turn against me.”

You belong to your father the devil, and you want to do what he wants. He was a murderer from the beginning and was against the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he shows what he is really like, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

In the same way, teach older women to be holy in their behavior, not speaking against others or enslaved to too much wine, but teaching what is good.

and said, “You son of the devil! You are an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of evil tricks and lies, always trying to change the Lord’s truths into lies.

and Jesus and his followers were also invited to the wedding.

Jesus asked the twelve followers, “Do you want to leave, too?”

Jesus was talking about Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. Judas was one of the twelve, but later he was going to turn against Jesus.

Thomas (called Didymus), who was one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
