Some people began to complain about Jesus because he said, “I am the bread that comes down from heaven.”

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law began to complain: “Look, this man welcomes sinners and even eats with them.”

All the people saw this and began to complain, “Jesus is staying with a sinner!”

But the Pharisees and the men who taught the law for the Pharisees began to complain to Jesus’ followers, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

Here is the truth John told when the leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, “Who are you?”

God’s bread is the One who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

But Jesus answered, “Stop complaining to each other.

I am the bread that gives life.

I am not like the bread your ancestors ate. They ate that bread and still died. I am the bread that came down from heaven, and whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

When the followers of Jesus heard this, many of them said, “This teaching is hard. Who can accept it?”

After Jesus said this, many of his followers left him and stopped following him.

Within the large crowd there, many people were whispering to each other about Jesus. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “No, he fools the people.”

Do not complain as some of them did; they were killed by the angel that destroys.

These people complain and blame others, doing the evil things they want to do. They brag about themselves, and they flatter others to get what they want.
