Then Pilate went back inside the palace and called Jesus to him and asked, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

“The days are coming,” says the Lord, “when I will raise up a good branch in David’s family. He will be a king who will rule in a wise way; he will do what is fair and right in the land.

The Lord has stopped punishing you; he has sent your enemies away. The King of Israel, the Lord, is with you; you will never again be afraid of being harmed.

Rejoice greatly, people of Jerusalem! Shout for joy, people of Jerusalem! Your king is coming to you. He does what is right, and he saves. He is gentle and riding on a donkey, on the colt of a donkey.

Jesus stood before Pilate the governor, and Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Those are your words.”

The governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s palace, and they all gathered around him.

Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Those are your words.”

They began to accuse Jesus, saying, “We caught this man telling things that mislead our people. He says that we should not pay taxes to Caesar, and he calls himself the Christ, a king.”

Then Nathanael said to Jesus, “Teacher, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.”

So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Jesus, shouting, “Praise God! God bless the One who comes in the name of the Lord! God bless the King of Israel!”

“Don’t be afraid, people of Jerusalem! Your king is coming, sitting on the colt of a donkey.”

Jesus said, “Is that your own question, or did others tell you about me?”

Pilate said, “So you are a king!” Jesus answered, “You are the one saying I am a king. This is why I was born and came into the world: to tell people the truth. And everyone who belongs to the truth listens to me.”

Pilate said, “What is truth?” After he said this, he went out to the crowd again and said to them, “I find nothing against this man.

After this, Pilate tried to let Jesus go. But some in the crowd cried out, “Anyone who makes himself king is against Caesar. If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar.”

Then they came to him many times and said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and hit him in the face.

Again Pilate came out and said to them, “Look, I am bringing Jesus out to you. I want you to know that I find nothing against him.”

He went back inside the palace and asked Jesus, “Where do you come from?” But Jesus did not answer him.

In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, I give you a command. Christ Jesus made the good confession when he stood before Pontius Pilate.
