Jesus came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”

When Simon Peter saw what had happened, he bowed down before Jesus and said, “Go away from me, Lord. I am a sinful man!”

He is the One who comes after me. I am not good enough to untie the strings of his sandals.”

Then he poured water into a bowl and began to wash the followers’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

Jesus answered, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but you will understand later.”
