Then the leading priests and the elders had a meeting at the palace of the high priest, named Caiaphas.

But I tell you, if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be judged. If you say bad things to a brother or sister, you will be judged by the council. And if you call someone a fool, you will be in danger of the fire of hell.

It was now only two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. The leading priests and teachers of the law were trying to find a trick to arrest Jesus and kill him.

But the leading priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where Jesus was, he must tell them. Then they could arrest him.

So the Pharisees said to each other, “You can see that nothing is going right for us. Look! The whole world is following him.”

So in Cana of Galilee Jesus did his first miracle. There he showed his glory, and his followers believed in him.

Many people followed him because they saw the miracles he did to heal the sick.

The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Jesus. So the leading priests and the Pharisees sent some Temple guards to arrest him.

The Temple guards went back to the leading priests and the Pharisees, who asked, “Why didn’t you bring Jesus?”

When the apostles heard this, they obeyed and went into the Temple early in the morning and continued teaching. When the high priest and his friends arrived, they called a meeting of the leaders and all the important elders. They sent some men to the jail to bring the apostles to them.

Hearing this, the captain of the Temple guards and the leading priests were confused and wondered what was happening.
