“Your hands shaped and made me. Do you now turn around and destroy me?

Everything was fine with me, but God broke me into pieces; he held me by the neck and crushed me. He has made me his target;

Again and again God attacks me; he runs at me like a soldier.

Yet my hands have never done anything cruel, and my prayer is pure.

Then they sat on the ground with Job seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him because they saw how much he was suffering.

Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? No one else on earth is like him. He is an honest and innocent man, honoring God and staying away from evil. You caused me to ruin him for no good reason, but he continues to be without blame.”

So Satan left the Lord’s presence. He put painful sores on Job’s body, from the top of his head to the soles of his feet.

“As surely as God lives, who has taken away my rights, the Almighty, who has made me unhappy,

You snatched me up and threw me into the wind and tossed me about in the storm.

But God has found fault with me; he considers me his enemy.

Instead of getting a fair trial, I am called a liar. I have been seriously hurt, even though I have not sinned.’

If I called to him and he answered, I still don’t believe he would listen to me.

No one who trusts you will be disgraced, but those who sin without excuse will be disgraced.

The Lord’s voice breaks the trees; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.

Troubles have come again and again, sounding like waterfalls. Your waves are crashing all around me.

Chase them with your storm, and frighten them with your wind.

I will use justice as a measuring line and goodness as the standard. The lies you hide behind will be destroyed as if by hail. They will be washed away as if in a flood.

Look, the punishment from the Lord will come like a storm. His anger will be like a hurricane. It will come swirling down on the heads of those wicked people.

“ ‘So this is what the Lord God says: I will break the wall with a stormy wind. In my anger rain will pour down, and hailstones will destroy the wall.

He will not break a crushed blade of grass or put out even a weak flame until he makes justice win the victory.

It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and hit that house, and it fell with a big crash.”

But this happened so that what is written in their law would be true: ‘They hated me for no reason.’

Jesus answered, “It is not this man’s sin or his parents’ sin that made him blind. This man was born blind so that God’s power could be shown in him.
