The happiness of evil people is brief, and the joy of the wicked lasts only a moment.

Papyrus plants cannot grow where there is no swamp, and reeds cannot grow tall without water.

That is what will happen to those who forget God; the hope of the wicked will be gone.

The canals will stink; the streams of Egypt will decrease and dry up. All the water plants will rot;

They are like a bush in a desert that grows in a land where no one lives, a hot and dry land with bad soil. They don’t know about the good things God can give.

And what is the seed that fell on rocky ground? That seed is like the person who hears the teaching and quickly accepts it with joy.

The Scripture says, “All people are like the grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field. The grass dies and the flowers fall,
