If I have sinned, what have I done to you, you watcher of humans? Why have you made me your target? Have I become a heavy load for you?

You are the only Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, with all the stars. You made the earth and everything on it, the seas and everything in them; you give life to everything. The heavenly army worships you.

If I sinned, you would watch me and would not let my sin go unpunished.

I will say to God: Do not hold me guilty, but tell me what you have against me.

You look for the evil I have done and search for my sin.

You write down cruel things against me and make me suffer for my boyhood sins.

Then you will count my steps, but you will not keep track of my sin.

No! It is because your evil is without limits and your sins have no end.

I make sad sounds as I eat; my groans pour out like water.

I have not hidden my sin as others do, secretly keeping my guilt to myself.

Then he will say to others, ‘I sinned and twisted what was right, but I did not receive the punishment I should have received.

You said, ‘I am pure and without sin; I am innocent and free from guilt.

but you also ask, ‘What’s the use? I don’t gain anything by not sinning.’

If you sin, it does nothing to God; even if your sins are many, they do nothing to him.

The arrows of the Almighty are in me; my spirit drinks in their poison; God’s terrors are gathered against me.

You will make them turn their backs when you aim your arrows at them.

Your goodness is as high as the mountains. Your justice is as deep as the great ocean. Lord, you protect both people and animals.

Lord God All-Powerful, how long will you be angry at the prayers of your people?
