In the beginning God created the sky and the earth.

This is the story of the creation of the sky and the earth. When the Lord God first made the earth and the sky,

“You are not the first man ever born; you are not older than the hills.

When God gave power to the wind and measured the water,

No one chose God to rule over the earth or put him in charge of the whole world.

In the beginning you made the earth, and your hands made the skies.

They will be destroyed, but you will remain. They will all wear out like clothes. And, like clothes, you will change them and throw them away.

You built the earth on its foundations so it can never be moved.

The Lord made the earth, using his wisdom. He set the sky in place, using his understanding.

Who has gone up to heaven and come back down? Who can hold the wind in his hand? Who can gather up the waters in his coat? Who has set in place the ends of the earth? What is his name or his son’s name? Tell me, if you know!

“I, wisdom, was with the Lord when he began his work, long before he made anything else.

Whom did he ask for help? Who taught him the right way? Who taught him knowledge and showed him the way to understanding?

God made the earth by his power. He used his wisdom to build the world and his understanding to stretch out the skies.

He is the one who makes the mountains and creates the wind and makes his thoughts known to people. He changes the dawn into darkness and walks over the mountains of the earth. His name is the Lord God All-Powerful.

God also says, “Lord, in the beginning you made the earth, and your hands made the skies.

But now in these last days God has spoken to us through his Son. God has chosen his Son to own all things, and through him he made the world.

The Lord raises the poor up from the dust, and he lifts the needy from the ashes. He lets the poor sit with princes and receive a throne of honor. “The foundations of the earth belong to the Lord, and the Lord set the world upon them.
