Then Elijah walked for a whole day into the desert. He sat down under a bush and asked to die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he prayed. “Let me die. I am no better than my ancestors.”

But the wicked will not be able to see, so they will not escape. Their only hope will be to die.”

They are very happy when they get to the grave.

“How I wish that I might have what I ask for and that God would give me what I hope for.

How I wish God would crush me and reach out his hand to destroy me.

My throat prefers to be choked; my bones welcome death.

Search for it like silver, and hunt for it like hidden treasure.

As the sun rose higher in the sky, God sent a very hot east wind to blow, and the sun became so hot on Jonah’s head that he became very weak and wished he were dead. He said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”

If you are going to continue doing this to me, then kill me now. If you care about me, put me to death, and then I won’t have any more troubles.”

During those days people will look for a way to die, but they will not find it. They will want to die, but death will run away from them.
