My friends all laugh at me when I call on God and expect him to answer me; they laugh at me even though I am right and innocent!

The tents of robbers are not bothered, and those who make God angry are safe. They have their god in their pocket.

I also could speak as you do if you were in my place. I could make great speeches against you and shake my head at you.

“The lamp of the wicked will be put out, and the flame in their lamps will stop burning.

A wild donkey does not bray when it has grass to eat, and an ox is quiet when it has feed.

I have done what you told me; I have not failed.

I said, “I am about to fall,” but, Lord, your love kept me safe.

Good people can look forward to a bright future, but the future of the wicked is like a flame going out.

Those who curse their father or mother will be like a light going out in darkness.

Give glory to the Lord your God before he brings darkness and before you slip and fall on the dark hills. You hope for light, but he will turn it into thick darkness; he will change it into deep gloom.

But the foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’

Then I can say to myself, “I have enough good things stored to last for many years. Rest, eat, drink, and enjoy life!” ’

I will punish those who do wrong; I will repay them. Soon their foot will slip, because their day of trouble is near, and their punishment will come quickly.”
