One male and one female of every living thing came, just as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord closed the door behind them.

“If God comes along and puts you in prison or calls you into court, no one can stop him.

God has turned me over to evil people and has handed me over to the wicked.

He beats me down on every side until I am gone; he destroys my hope like a fallen tree.

With it, he stops everyone from working so everyone knows it is the work of God.

Look at what God has done: No one can straighten what he has bent.

“I will make Babylon fit only for owls and for swamps. I will sweep Babylon as with a broom of destruction,” says the Lord All-Powerful.

I will put the key to the house of David around his neck. If he opens a door, no one will be able to close it; if he closes a door, no one will be able to open it.

You have made the city a pile of rocks and have destroyed her walls. The city our enemies built with strong walls is gone; it will never be built again.

This is what the Lord All-Powerful says: “Babylon’s thick wall will be completely pulled down and her high gates burned. The people will work hard, but it won’t help; their work will only become fuel for the flames!”

Then say, ‘In the same way Babylon will sink and will not rise again because of the terrible things I will make happen here. Her people will fall.’ ” The words of Jeremiah end here.

I will make you a bare rock, and you will be a place for drying fishing nets. You will not be built again, because I, the Lord, have spoken, says the Lord God.

The people of Edom might say, “We were destroyed, but we will go back and rebuild the ruins.” But the Lord All-Powerful says, “If they rebuild them, I will destroy them. People will say, ‘Edom is a wicked country. The Lord is always angry with the Edomites.’

God has given all people over to their stubborn ways so that he can show mercy to all.

“Write this to the angel of the church in Philadelphia: “This is what the One who is holy and true, who holds the key of David, says. When he opens a door, no one can close it. And when he closes it, no one can open it.

Today the Lord will hand you over to me, and I’ll kill you and cut off your head. Today I’ll feed the bodies of the Philistine soldiers to the birds of the air and the wild animals. Then all the world will know there is a God in Israel!

You told me what good things you did. The Lord handed me over to you, but you did not kill me.

Abishai said to David, “Today God has handed your enemy over to you. Let me pin Saul to the ground with my spear. I’ll only have to do it once. I won’t need to hit him twice.”
