Joseph named the first son Manasseh and said, “God has made me forget all the troubles I have had and all my father’s family.”

I make this agreement with you: I will never again destroy all living things by a flood. A flood will never again destroy the earth.”

That is why it is so dark you cannot see and a flood of water covers you.

But my brothers cannot be counted on. They are like streams that do not always flow, streams that sometimes run over.

Let them drink and forget their need and remember their misery no more.

They do not worry about how short life is, because God keeps them busy with what they love to do.

“Don’t be afraid, because you will not be ashamed. Don’t be embarrassed, because you will not be disgraced. You will forget the shame you felt earlier; you will not remember the shame you felt when you lost your husband.

The Lord says, “This day is like the time of Noah to me. I promised then that I would never flood the world again. In the same way, I promise I will not be angry with you or punish you again.

People in the land who ask for blessings will ask for them from the faithful God. And people in the land who make a promise will promise in the name of the faithful God, because the troubles of the past will be forgotten. I will make those troubles go away.

When a woman gives birth to a baby, she has pain, because her time has come. But when her baby is born, she forgets the pain, because she is so happy that a child has been born into the world.
