Everyone lies to his neighbors; they say one thing and mean another.

The Lord will stop those flattering lips and cut off those bragging tongues.

You who plan evil, what will God do to you? How will he punish you?

Their words are not friendly but are lies about peace-loving people.

His words are slippery like butter, but war is in his heart. His words are smoother than oil, but they cut like knives.

I find rest in God; only he gives me hope.

Their own words will be used against them. All who see them will shake their heads.

When you lie about your neighbors, it hurts them as much as a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.

There are wicked men among my people. Like those who make nets for catching birds, they set their traps to catch people.

Shouldn’t I punish the people of Judah for doing these things?” says the Lord. “Shouldn’t I give a nation such as this the punishment it deserves?

“They use their tongues like a bow, shooting lies from their mouths like arrows. Lies, not truth, have grown strong in the land. They go from one evil thing to another. They do not know who I am,” says the Lord.

“Watch out for your friends, and don’t trust your own relatives, because every relative is a cheater, and every friend tells lies about you.

Everyone lies to his friend, and no one speaks the truth. The people of Judah have taught their tongues to lie. They have become tired from sinning.

The rich people of the city do cruel things. Its people tell lies; they do not tell the truth.
