At the sound of Babylon’s capture, the earth will shake. People in all nations will hear Babylon’s cry of distress.

My heart cries with sorrow for Moab. Its people run away to Zoar for safety; they run to Eglath Shelishiyah. People are going up the mountain road to Luhith, crying as they go. People are going on the road to Horonaim, crying over their destruction.

The vineyard belonging to the Lord All-Powerful is the nation of Israel; the garden that he loves is the people of Judah. He looked for justice, but there was only killing. He hoped for right living, but there were only cries of pain.

But the Lord is the only true God. He is the only living God, the King forever. The earth shakes when he is angry, and the nations cannot stand up to his anger.

The nations have heard of your shame, and your cries fill all the earth. One warrior has run into another; both of them have fallen down together!”

“Like a lion coming up from the thick bushes near the Jordan River to attack a strong pen for sheep, I will suddenly chase Edom from its land. Who is the one I have chosen to do this? There is no one like me, no one who can take me to court. None of their leaders can stand up against me.”

At the sound of Edom’s fall, the earth will shake. Their cry will be heard all the way to the Red Sea.

The land shakes and moves in pain, because the Lord will do what he has planned to Babylon. He will make Babylon an empty desert, where no one will live.

“Sounds of people crying are heard in Babylon. Sounds of people destroying things are heard in the land of the Babylonians.

Now the people who live by the coast tremble, now that you have fallen. The islands of the sea are afraid because you have been defeated.’

The people on the shore shake with fear when your sailors cry out.

I made the nations shake with fear at the sound of the tree falling when I brought it down to the place of the dead. It went to join those who have gone down to the grave. Then all the trees of Eden and the best trees of Lebanon, all the well-watered trees, were comforted in the place of the dead below the earth.

I will cause many people to be shocked about you. Their kings will tremble with fear because of you when I swing my sword in front of them. They will shake every moment on the day you fall; each king will be afraid for his own life.
