But your evil has kept away both rain and harvest. Your sins have kept you from enjoying good things.

Some fools turned against God and suffered for the evil they did.

He made fertile land salty, because the people there did evil.

It is your evil that has separated you from your God. Your sins cause him to turn away from you, so he does not hear you.

These are the words that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah about the time when there was no rain:

We know that we suffer because of our sins. Lord, do something to help us for the good of your name. We have left you many times; we have sinned against you.

So the rain has not come, and there have not been any spring rains. But your face still looks like the face of a prostitute. You refuse even to be ashamed of what you did.

“The way you have lived and acted has brought this trouble to you. This is your punishment. How terrible it is! The pain stabs your heart!”

No one should complain when he is punished for his sins.

Your punishment is complete, Jerusalem. He will not send you into captivity again. But the Lord will punish the sins of Edom; he will uncover your evil.
