“The people of Moab thought they were greater than the Lord, so punish them until they act as if they are drunk. Moab will fall and roll around in its own vomit, and people will even make fun of it.

God’s wisdom is deep, and his power is great; no one can fight him without getting hurt.

But the one who sits in heaven laughs; the Lord makes fun of them.

But, Lord, you laugh at them; you make fun of all of them.

You have given your people trouble. You made us unable to walk straight, like people drunk with wine.

The Lord holds a cup of anger in his hand; it is full of wine mixed with spices. He pours it out even to the last drop, and the wicked drink it all.

But the king of Egypt said, “Who is the Lord? Why should I obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and I will not let Israel go.”

You are still against my people and do not want to let them go.

An ax is not better than the person who swings it. A saw is not better than the one who uses it. A stick cannot control the person who picks it up. A club cannot pick up the person!

The Lord has made the leaders confused. They have led Egypt to wander in the wrong ways, like drunk people stumbling in their own vomit.

Every table is covered with vomit, so there is not a clean place anywhere.

Be surprised and amazed. Blind yourselves so that you cannot see. Become drunk, but not from wine. Trip and fall, but not from beer.

Awake! Awake! Get up, Jerusalem. The Lord was very angry with you; your punishment was like wine in a cup. The Lord made you drink that wine; you drank the whole cup until you stumbled.

While I was angry, I walked on the nations. In my anger I punished them and poured their blood on the ground.”

“Moab is shattered! The people are crying! Moab turns away in shame! People all around her make fun of her. The things that happened fill them with great fear.”

The nation of Moab will be destroyed, because they thought they were greater than the Lord.

“Call for the archers to come against Babylon. Tell them to surround the city, and let no one escape. Pay her back for what she has done; do to her what she has done to other nations. Babylon acted with pride against the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.

While they are stirred up, I will give a feast for them and make them drunk. They will shout and laugh. And they will sleep forever and never wake up!” says the Lord.

I will make Babylon’s rulers and wise men drunk, and her governors, officers, and soldiers, too. Then they will sleep forever and never wake up,” says the King, whose name is the Lord All-Powerful.

Babylon was like a gold cup in the Lord’s hand that made the whole earth drunk. The nations drank Babylon’s wine, so they went crazy.

“People have heard my groaning, and there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble, and they are happy you have done this to me. Now bring that day you have announced so that my enemies will be like me.

The Lord filled me with misery; he made me drunk with suffering.

Be happy and glad, people of Edom, you who live in the land of Uz. The cup of God’s anger will come to you; then you will get drunk and go naked.

“The king of the North will do whatever he wants. He will brag about himself and praise himself and think he is even better than a god. He will say things against the God of gods that no one has ever heard. And he will be successful until all the bad things have happened. Then what God has planned to happen will happen.

Instead, you have set yourself against the Lord of heaven. You ordered the drinking cups from the Temple of the Lord to be brought to you. Then you and your royal guests, your wives, and your slave women drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone that are not really gods; they cannot see or hear or understand anything. You did not honor God, who has power over your life and everything you do.

That little horn grew until it reached to the sky. It even threw some of the army of heaven to the ground and walked on them!

Nineveh, you will be drunk, too. You will hide; you will look for a place safe from the enemy.

You Babylonians will be filled with disgrace, not respect. It’s your turn to drink and fall to the ground like a drunk person. The cup of anger from the Lord’s right hand is coming around to you. You will receive disgrace, not respect.

He will be against and put himself above any so-called god or anything that people worship. And that Man of Evil will even go into God’s Temple and sit there and say that he is God.

The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations were destroyed. And God remembered the sins of Babylon the Great, so he gave that city the cup filled with the wine of his terrible anger.
