Ask this question, and consider it: A man cannot have a baby. So why do I see every strong man holding his stomach in pain like a woman having a baby? Why is everyone’s face turning white like a dead man’s face?

Fear took hold of them; they hurt like a woman having a baby.

I saw those terrible things, and now I am in pain; my pains are like the pains of giving birth. What I hear makes me very afraid; what I see causes me to shake with fear.

The city of Damascus has become weak. The people want to run away; they are ready to panic. The people feel pain and suffering, like a woman giving birth to a baby.

The king of Babylon heard about those armies, and he became helpless with fear. Distress has gripped him. His pain is like that of a woman giving birth to a baby.

We have heard the news about that army and are helpless from fear. We are gripped by our pain, like a woman having a baby.

King Belshazzar was very frightened. His face turned white, his knees knocked together, and he could not stand up because his legs were too weak.

The pain of birth will come for him, but he is like a foolish baby who won’t come out of its mother’s womb.

When they see them, nations shake with fear, and everyone’s face becomes pale.

Nineveh is robbed, ruined, and destroyed. The people lose their courage, and their knees knock. Stomachs ache, and everyone’s face grows pale.

While people are saying, “We have peace and we are safe,” they will be destroyed quickly. It is like pains that come quickly to a woman having a baby. Those people will not escape.
