Don’t the wicked understand? They destroy my people as if they were eating bread. They do not ask the Lord for help.

Be angry with the nations that do not know you and with the kingdoms that do not honor you.

All of us are dirty with sin. All the right things we have done are like filthy pieces of cloth. All of us are like dead leaves, and our sins, like the wind, have carried us away.

No one worships you or even asks you to help us. That is because you have turned away from us and have let our sins destroy us.

Pour out your anger on other nations that do not know you and do not pray to you. Those nations have destroyed the people of Jacob. They have eaten them up completely and destroyed their homeland.

This is what the Lord says: “I was fair to your ancestors, so why did they turn away from me? Your ancestors worshiped useless idols and became useless themselves.

All this disaster came to us just as it is written in the Teachings of Moses. But we have not pleaded with the Lord our God. We have not stopped sinning. We have not paid attention to your truth.

He says, “My people, what did I do to you? How did I make you tired of me? Tell me.

You say, ‘We are tired of doing this,’ and you sniff at it in disgust,” says the Lord All-Powerful. “And you bring hurt, crippled, and sick animals as gifts. You bring them as gifts, but I won’t accept them from you,” says the Lord.

You have tired the Lord with your words. You ask, “How have we tired him?” You did it by saying, “The Lord thinks anyone who does evil is good, and he is pleased with them.” Or you asked, “Where is the God who is fair?”

“You have said, ‘It is useless to serve God. It did no good to obey his laws and to show the Lord All-Powerful that we were sorry for what we did.
