I said, “I am in the middle of my life. Do I have to go through the gates of death? Will I have the rest of my life taken away from me?”

“I do not have the strength to wait. There is nothing to hope for, so why should I be patient?

Remember, God, that my life is only a breath. My eyes will never see happy times again.

So I said, “My God, do not take me in the middle of my life. Your years go on and on.

In the beginning you made the earth, and your hands made the skies.

They refused to eat anything, so they almost died.

Love the Lord, all you who belong to him. The Lord protects those who truly believe, but he punishes the proud as much as they have sinned.

When I went down to where the mountains of the sea start to rise, I thought I was locked in this prison forever, but you saved me from the pit of death, Lord my God.

Truly, in our own hearts we believed we would die. But this happened so we would not trust in ourselves but in God, who raises people from the dead.
