The king of Assyria says to himself, ‘All of my commanders are like kings.

You cannot defeat one of my master’s least important officers, so why do you depend on Egypt to give you chariots and horsemen?

Also, his men will take away your riches and will steal the things you sell. They will break down your walls and destroy your nice houses. They will throw your stones, wood, and trash into the sea.

Your traders are more than the stars in the sky, but like locusts, they strip the land and then fly away.

Tyre has built a strong wall for herself. She has piled up silver like dust and gold like the mud in the streets.

The light of a lamp will never shine in you again, and the voices of a bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world’s great people, and all the nations were tricked by your magic.

So these disasters will come to her in one day: death, and crying, and great hunger, and she will be destroyed by fire, because the Lord God who judges her is powerful.”
