People will run to caves in the rocky cliffs and will dig holes and hide in the ground from the anger of the Lord and his great power, when he stands to shake the earth.

People in Moab, leave your towns empty and go live among the rocks. Be like a dove that makes its nest at the entrance of a cave.

“Say to them: ‘This is what the Lord God says: As surely as I live, those who are among the city ruins in Israel will be killed in war. I will cause those who live in the country to be eaten by wild animals. People hiding in the strongholds and caves will die of disease.

The places of false worship will be destroyed, the places where Israel sins. Thorns and weeds will grow up and cover their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us!”

They will crawl in the dust like a snake, like insects crawling on the ground. They will come trembling from their holes to the Lord our God and will turn in fear before you.

Nineveh, you will be drunk, too. You will hide; you will look for a place safe from the enemy.

“This is what the Lord All-Powerful says: ‘In a short time I will once again shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.

I will shake all the nations, and they will bring their wealth. Then I will fill this Temple with glory,’ says the Lord All-Powerful.

Then people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ And they will say to the hills, ‘Cover us!’

Those people will be punished with a destruction that continues forever. They will be kept away from the Lord and from his great power.

The world was not good enough for them! They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and holes in the earth.

When he spoke before, his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once again I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”

When both Jonathan and his officer let the Philistines see them, the Philistines said, “Look! The Hebrews are crawling out of the holes they were hiding in!”
