The water of the city Dibon is full of blood, and I, the Lord, will bring even more troubles to Dibon. A few people living in Moab have escaped the enemy, but I will send lions to kill them.

At first they did not worship the Lord, so he sent lions among them which killed some of them.

Crying is heard everywhere in Moab. Their crying is heard as far away as the city Eglaim; it is heard as far away as Beer Elim.

“I will send four kinds of destroyers against them,” says the Lord. “I will send war to kill, dogs to drag the bodies away, and the birds of the air and wild animals to eat and destroy the bodies.

“The people of Israel are like a flock of sheep that are scattered from being chased by lions. The first lion to eat them up was the king of Assyria. The last lion to crush their bones was Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.”

“ ‘If after all this you still do not obey me, I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

I will also turn against you. I will punish you seven more times for your sins.

I will show my great anger; I will punish you seven more times for your sins.

It will be like someone who runs from a lion and meets a bear, or like someone who goes into his house and puts his hand on the wall, and then is bitten by a snake.

But we defeated those Amorites. We ruined their towns from Heshbon to Dibon, and we destroyed them as far as Nophah, near Medeba.”
