Then David said to Joab and to all the people with Joab, “Tear your clothes and put on rough cloth to show how sad you are. Cry for Abner.” King David himself followed the body of Abner.

Every head has been shaved and every beard cut off. Everyone’s hands are cut, and everyone wears rough cloth around his waist.

The elders of Jerusalem sit on the ground in silence. They throw dust on their heads and put on rough cloth to show their sadness. The young women of Jerusalem bow their heads to the ground in sorrow.

They will put on rough cloth to show how sad they are. They will tremble all over with fear. Their faces will show their shame, and all their heads will be shaved.

When you build a new house, build a low wall around the edge of the roof so you will not be guilty if someone falls off the roof.

You rich people, listen! Cry and be very sad because of the troubles that are coming to you.
