What shall we tell the messengers from Philistia? Say that the Lord has made Jerusalem strong and that his poor people will go there for safety.

You protect the poor; you protect the helpless when they are in danger. You are like a shelter from storms, like shade that protects them from the heat. The cruel people attack like a rainstorm beating against the wall,

Because of these things, this is what the Lord God says: “I will put a stone in the ground in Jerusalem, a tested stone. Everything will be built on this important and precious rock. Anyone who trusts in it will never be disappointed.

The Lord will make the poor people happy; they will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

A few people will come out of Jerusalem alive; a few from Mount Zion will live. The strong love of the Lord All-Powerful will make this happen.’

The king received a report that Tirhakah, the Cushite king of Egypt, was coming to attack him. When the king of Assyria heard this, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

At that time Merodach-Baladan son of Baladan was king of Babylon. He sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, because he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick and was now well.

This covering will protect the people from the heat of the sun and will provide a safe place to hide from the storm and rain.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! God chose the poor in the world to be rich with faith and to receive the kingdom God promised to those who love him.
