“Put the trumpet to your lips and give the warning! The enemy swoops down on the Lord’s people like an eagle. The Israelites have broken my agreement and have turned against my teachings.

“No,” the commander said, “my master did not send me to tell these things only to you and your king. He sent me to speak also to those people sitting on the wall who will have to eat their own dung and drink their own urine like you.”

All you people of the world, look! Everyone who lives in the world, look! You will see a banner raised on a mountain. You will hear a trumpet sound.

The people of the earth have ruined it, because they do not follow God’s teachings or obey God’s laws or keep their agreement with God that was to last forever.

The Lord says, “Shout out loud. Don’t hold back. Shout out loud like a trumpet. Tell my people what they have done against their God; tell the family of Jacob about their sins.

It will not be like the agreement I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of Egypt. I was a husband to them, but they broke that agreement,” says the Lord.

I will hand over the men who broke my agreement, who have not kept the promises they made before me. They cut a calf into two pieces before me and walked between the pieces.

Look! The enemy rises up like a cloud, and his chariots come like a tornado. His horses are faster than eagles. How terrible it will be for us! We are ruined!

“Announce this message in Judah and say it in Jerusalem: ‘Blow the trumpet throughout the country!’ Shout out loud and say, ‘Come together! Let’s all escape to the strong, walled cities!’

This is what the Lord says: “Look! Someone is coming, like an eagle diving down from the sky and spreading its wings over Moab.

The Lord is like an eagle swooping down and spreading its wings over the city of Bozrah. At that time Edom’s soldiers will become very frightened, like a woman having a baby.

“Lift up a banner in the land! Blow the trumpet among the nations! Get the nations ready for battle against Babylon. Call these kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz to fight against her. Choose a commander to lead the army against Babylon. Send so many horses that they are like a swarm of locusts.

“Run for your lives, people of Benjamin! Run away from Jerusalem! Blow the war trumpet in the town of Tekoa! Raise the warning flag over the town of Beth Hakkerem! Disaster is coming from the north; terrible destruction is coming to you.

So prophesy against them, prophesy, human.”

“ ‘This is what the Lord God says: I will do to you what you have done. You hated and broke the agreement you promised to keep.

Say, ‘This is what the Lord God says: A giant eagle with big wings and long feathers of many different colors came to Lebanon and took hold of the top of a cedar tree.

They have blown the trumpet, and everything is ready. But no one is going to the battle, because my anger is against all that crowd.

My people will be destroyed, because they have no knowledge. You have refused to learn, so I will refuse to let you be priests to me. You have forgotten the teachings of your God, so I will forget your children.

“Blow the horn in Gibeah and the trumpet in Ramah. Give the warning at Beth Aven, and be first into battle, people of Benjamin.

But they have broken the agreement as Adam did; they have been unfaithful to me.

“The Israelites were very wicked in Gilgal, so I have hated them there. Because of the sinful things they have done, I will force them to leave my land. I will no longer love them; their leaders have turned against me.

Blow the trumpet in Jerusalem; shout a warning on my holy mountain. Let all the people who live in the land shake with fear, because the Lord’s day of judging is coming; it is near.

Blow the trumpet in Jerusalem; call for a day when everyone fasts. Tell everyone to stop work.

When a trumpet blows a warning in a city, the people tremble. When trouble comes to a city, the Lord has caused it.

“On that day the palace songs will become funeral songs,” says the Lord God. “There will be dead bodies thrown everywhere! Silence!”

I saw the Lord standing by the altar, and he said: “Smash the top of the pillars so that even the bottom of the doors will shake. Make the pillars fall on the people’s heads; anyone left alive I will kill with a sword. Not one person will get away; no one will escape.

Their horses are faster than leopards and quicker than wolves at sunset. Their horse soldiers attack quickly; they come from places far away. They attack quickly, like an eagle swooping down for food.

Lebanon, open your gates so fire may burn your cedar trees.

Then the Lord will appear above them, and his arrows will shoot like lightning. The Lord God will blow the trumpet, and he will march in the storms of the south.

Wherever the dead body is, there the vultures will gather.

It will take only a second—as quickly as an eye blinks—when the last trumpet sounds. The trumpet will sound, and those who have died will be raised to live forever, and we will all be changed.

The Lord will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the world, and it will swoop down like an eagle. You won’t understand their language,
