Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out into the field.” While they were out in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

Adam had sexual relations with his wife Eve again, and she gave birth to a son. She named him Seth and said, “God has given me another child. He will take the place of Abel, who was killed by Cain.”

I had two sons. They were out in the field fighting, and no one was there to stop them. So one son killed the other son.

His words are slippery like butter, but war is in his heart. His words are smoother than oil, but they cut like knives.

Cursing, lying, killing, stealing and adultery are everywhere. One murder follows another.

A son will not honor his father, a daughter will turn against her mother, and a daughter-in-law will be against her mother-in-law; a person’s enemies will be members of his own family.

A person might shove someone or throw something at someone and cause death.

So you will be guilty for the death of all the good people who have been killed on earth—from the murder of that good man Abel to the murder of Zechariah son of Berakiah, whom you murdered between the Temple and the altar.

from the killing of Abel to the killing of Zechariah, who died between the altar and the Temple. Yes, I tell you that you who are alive now will be punished for them all.

But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you using the kiss to give the Son of Man to his enemies?”

It was by faith that Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. God said he was pleased with the gifts Abel offered and called Abel a good man because of his faith. Abel died, but through his faith he is still speaking.

You have come to Jesus, the One who brought the new agreement from God to his people, and you have come to the sprinkled blood that has a better message than the blood of Abel.

It will be terrible for them. They have followed the way of Cain, and for money they have given themselves to doing the wrong that Balaam did. They have fought against God as Korah did, and like Korah, they surely will be destroyed.
