Then the Lord God took dust from the ground and formed a man from it. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nose, and the man became a living person.

It is written in the Scriptures: “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam became a spirit that gives life.

The Spirit of God created me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life.

You will turn back into the dust of the earth again, but your spirit will return to God who gave it.

But Lord, you are our father. We are like clay, and you are the potter; your hands made us all.

This God is the One who gives life, breath, and everything else to people. He does not need any help from them; he has everything he needs.

The first man came from the dust of the earth. The second man came from heaven.

You will sweat and work hard for your food. Later you will return to the ground, because you were taken from it. You are dust, and when you die, you will return to the dust.”

as long as I am alive and God’s breath of life is in my nose,

So everything on dry land that had the breath of life in it died.

This message is the word of the Lord to Israel. This is what the Lord says, who stretched out the skies, and laid the foundations of the earth, and put the human spirit within:

He knows how we were made; he remembers that we are dust.

Know that the Lord is God. He made us, and we belong to him; we are his people, the sheep he tends.

You are only human, and human beings have no right to question God. An object should not ask the person who made it, “Why did you make me like this?”

You should stop trusting in people to save you, because people are only human; they aren’t able to help you.

So the Lord God forced Adam out of the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken.

We have all had fathers here on earth who disciplined us, and we respected them. So it is even more important that we accept discipline from the Father of our spirits so we will have life.

But Moses and Aaron bowed facedown and cried out, “God, you are the God over the spirits of all people. Please don’t be angry with this whole group. Only one man has really sinned.”

The Lord looks deep inside people and searches through their thoughts.

I am just like you before God; I too am made out of clay.

We know that our body—the tent we live in here on earth—will be destroyed. But when that happens, God will have a house for us. It will not be a house made by human hands; instead, it will be a home in heaven that will last forever.

We have this treasure from God, but we are like clay jars that hold the treasure. This shows that the great power is from God, not from us.

After he said this, he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

So he puts even more blame on people who live in clay houses, whose foundations are made of dust, who can be crushed like a moth.

“The Lord is the God of the spirits of all people. May he choose a leader for these people,

There is a time to tear apart and a time to sew together. There is a time to be silent and a time to speak.

because Adam was formed first and then Eve.

but a mist would rise up from the earth and water all the ground.

The Lord’s appointed king, who was our very breath, was caught in their traps. We had said about him, “We will be protected by him among the nations.”

This is what the Lord God says to the bones: I will cause breath to enter you so you will come to life.

So God created human beings in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female.

I will put muscles on you and flesh on you and cover you with skin. Then I will put breath in you so you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’ ”
