Then Abraham said, “Lord, please don’t be angry with me, but let me ask you this. If you find only thirty good people in the city, will you destroy it?” He said, “If I find thirty good people there, I will not destroy the city.”

Again Abraham said to him, “If you find only forty good people there, will you destroy the city?” The Lord said, “If I find forty, I will not destroy it.”

Then Abraham said, “I have been brave to speak to the Lord. But what if there are twenty good people in the city?” He answered, “If I find twenty there, I will not destroy the city.”

Then Judah went to Joseph and said, “Master, please let me speak plainly to you, and please don’t be angry with me. I know that you are as powerful as the king of Egypt himself.

“I am not worthy; I cannot answer you anything, so I will put my hand over my mouth.

Lord, you have heard what the poor people want. Do what they ask, and listen to them.

He remembers who the murderers are; he will not forget the cries of those who suffer.

I said, “Oh, no! I will be destroyed. I am not pure, and I live among people who are not pure, but I have seen the King, the Lord All-Powerful.”

Then Gideon said to God, “Don’t be angry with me if I ask just one more thing. Please let me make one more test. Let only the wool be dry while the ground around it gets wet with dew.”
