One person will say, ‘I belong to the Lord,’ and another will use the name Jacob. Another will sign his name ‘I am the Lord’s,’ and another will use the name Israel.”

He said to the man, “Go through Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of the people who groan and cry about all the hateful things being done among them.”

We have heard that some of our group have come to you and said things that trouble and upset you. But we did not tell them to do this.

We share in the many sufferings of Christ. In the same way, much comfort comes to us through Christ.

We carry the death of Jesus in our own bodies so that the life of Jesus can also be seen in our bodies.

Really, there is no other Good News. But some people are confusing you; they want to change the Good News of Christ.

I want to know Christ and the power that raised him from the dead. I want to share in his sufferings and become like him in his death.

I am happy in my sufferings for you. There are things that Christ must still suffer through his body, the church. I am accepting, in my body, my part of these things that must be suffered.

Be careful that no one fails to receive God’s grace and begins to cause trouble among you. A person like that can ruin many of you.

Joshua said, “I don’t know why you caused so much trouble for us, but now the Lord will bring trouble to you.” Then all the people threw stones at Achan and his family until they died. Then the people burned them.

The second beast also forced all people, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to have a mark on their right hand or on their forehead.

No one could buy or sell without this mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.
