Galatians 2:21

By saying these things I am not going against God’s grace. Just the opposite, if the law could make us right with God, then Christ’s death would be useless.

The Lord upsets the plans of nations; he ruins all their plans.

But I said, “I have worked hard for nothing; I have used all my power, but I did nothing useful. But the Lord will decide what my work is worth; God will decide my reward.”

“ ‘You keep saying, “We are wise, because we have the teachings of the Lord.” But actually, those who explain the Scriptures have written lies with their pens.

Then Jesus said to them, “You cleverly ignore the commands of God so you can follow your own teachings.

Because they did not know the way that God makes people right with him, they tried to make themselves right in their own way. So they did not accept God’s way of making people right.

And if he chose them by grace, it is not for the things they have done. If they could be made God’s people by what they did, God’s gift of grace would not really be a gift.

Jesus was given to die for our sins, and he was raised from the dead to make us right with God.

So what should we say about this? If God is for us, no one can defeat us.

And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is worth nothing, and your faith is worth nothing.

And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith has nothing to it; you are still guilty of your sins.

And you are being saved by it if you continue believing what I told you. If you do not, then you believed for nothing.

Yet we know that a person is made right with God not by following the law, but by trusting in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus, that we might be made right with God because we trusted in Christ. It is not because we followed the law, because no one can be made right with God by following the law.

But I would really be wrong to begin teaching again those things that I gave up.

Does this mean that the law is against God’s promises? Never! That would be true only if the law could make us right with God. But God did not give a law that can bring life.

The people were given the law concerning the system of priests from the tribe of Levi, but they could not be made perfect through that system. So there was a need for another priest to come, a priest like Melchizedek, not Aaron.
