He said to me, “Human, do you see what they are doing? Do you see how many hateful things the people of Israel are doing here that drive me far away from my Temple? But you will see things more hateful than these.”

Hezekiah said, “Listen to me, Levites. Make yourselves ready for the Lord’s service, and make holy the Temple of the Lord, the God of your ancestors. Remove from the Temple everything that makes it impure.

He left his dwelling at Shiloh, the Tent where he lived among the people.

I came close to being completely ruined in front of a whole group of people.”

The Lord showed me that people were making plans against me. Because he showed me what they were doing, I knew they were against me.

“Both the prophets and the priests live as if there were no God. I have found them doing evil things even in my own Temple,” says the Lord.

If you don’t obey me, I will destroy my Temple in Jerusalem as I destroyed my Holy Tent at Shiloh. When I do, people all over the world will curse Jerusalem.’ ”

When King Josiah was ruling Judah, the Lord said to me, “Did you see what unfaithful Israel did? She was like a prostitute with her idols on every hill and under every green tree.

They put their hateful idols in the place where I have chosen to be worshiped, so they made it unclean.

Don’t you see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

The people of Judah have done what I said was evil, says the Lord. They have set up their hateful idols in the place where I have chosen to be worshiped and have made it unclean.

Then the glory of the Lord left the door of the Temple and stood over the living creatures.

As I watched, the living creatures spread their wings and flew up from the ground, with the wheels beside them. They stood where the east gate of the Temple of the Lord opened, and the glory of the God of Israel was over them.

Then the living creatures lifted their wings with the wheels beside them, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.

The glory of the Lord went up from inside Jerusalem and stopped on the mountain on the east side of the city.

“So say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord God says: Change your hearts and lives, and stop worshiping idols. Stop doing all the things I hate.

He mistreats the poor and needy. He steals and refuses to return what was promised for a loan. He looks to idols for help. He does things which I hate.

The kings made my name unclean by putting their doorway next to my doorway, and their doorpost next to my doorpost so only a wall separated me from them. When they did their acts that I hate, they made my holy name unclean, and so I destroyed them in my anger.

The man asked me, “Human, do you see this?” Then the man led me back to the bank of the river.

So the Lord God says: You have made my Temple unclean with all your evil idols and the hateful things you do. Because of this, as surely as I live, I will cut you off. I will have no pity, and I will show no mercy.

He also said to me, “You will see even more hateful things that they are doing.”

Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the Temple of the Lord, where I saw women sitting and crying for Tammuz.

Then he brought me to the entry of the courtyard. When I looked, I saw a hole in the wall.

Then he said to me, “Go in and see the hateful, evil things they are doing here.”

They will come to worship the Lord, bringing their flocks and herds, but they will not be able to find him, because he has left them.
