So now, go. Lead the people where I have told you, and my angel will lead you. When the time comes to punish, I will punish them for their sin.”

Lord our God, you answered them. You showed them that you are a forgiving God, but you punished them for their wrongs.

You will lead your people and place them on your very own mountain, the place that you, Lord, made for yourself to live, the temple, Lord, that your hands have made.

“When I punish Israel for their sins, I will also destroy the altars at Bethel. The corners of the altar will be cut off, and they will fall to the ground.

“I have chosen only you out of all the families of the earth, so I will punish you for all your sins.”

but when we cried out to the Lord, he heard us and sent us an angel to bring us out of Egypt. “Now we are here at Kadesh, a town on the edge of your land.

So you will be guilty for the death of all the good people who have been killed on earth—from the murder of that good man Abel to the murder of Zechariah son of Berakiah, whom you murdered between the Temple and the altar.

I will punish those who do wrong; I will repay them. Soon their foot will slip, because their day of trouble is near, and their punishment will come quickly.”
