Exodus 24:4

So Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord. And he got up early the next morning and built an altar near the bottom of the mountain. He set up twelve stones, one stone for each of the twelve tribes of Israel.

The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” So Abram built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone he had slept on and set it up on its end. Then he poured olive oil on the top of it.

This stone which I have set up on its end will be the house of God. And I will give God one-tenth of all he gives me.”

So Jacob took a large rock and set it up on its end.

Ahijah took his new coat and tore it into twelve pieces.

He took twelve stones, one stone for each of the twelve tribes, the number of Jacob’s sons. (The Lord changed Jacob’s name to Israel.)

They gave the Temple to God by offering a hundred bulls, two hundred male sheep, and four hundred lambs as sacrifices. And as an offering to forgive the sins of all Israel, they offered twelve male goats, one goat for each tribe in Israel.

These are the men who sealed the agreement: Nehemiah the governor, son of Hacaliah. Zedekiah,

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write about this battle in a book so people will remember. And be sure to tell Joshua, because I will completely destroy the Amalekites from the earth.”

Then Moses built an altar and named it The Lord Is My Banner.

Then God said to Moses, “These are the laws for living that you will give to the Israelites:

Then he took the Book of the Agreement and read it so the people could hear him. And they said, “We will do everything that the Lord has said; we will obey.”

There must be twelve jewels on the chest covering—one jewel for each of the names of the sons of Israel. Carve the name of one of the twelve tribes on each of the stones as you would carve a seal.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write down these words, because with these words I have made an agreement with you and Israel.”

At that time there will be an altar for the Lord in the middle of Egypt and a monument to the Lord at the border of Egypt.

“Take fine flour and bake twelve loaves of bread with it, using four quarts of flour for each loaf.

“Speak to the people of Israel and get twelve walking sticks from them—one from the leader of each tribe. Write the name of each man on his stick, and

so you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom. And you will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

James, Peter, and John, who seemed to be the leaders, understood that God had given me this special grace, so they accepted Barnabas and me. They agreed that they would go to the Jewish people and that we should go to those who are not Jewish.

So Moses wrote down these teachings and gave them to the priests and all the elders of Israel. (The priests are the sons of Levi, who carry the Ark of the Agreement with the Lord.)

They carried with them the twelve rocks taken from the Jordan, and Joshua set them up at Gilgal.

and said to them, “Go out into the river where the Ark of the Lord your God is. Each of you bring back one rock, one for each tribe of Israel, and carry it on your shoulder.

The walls of the city were built on twelve foundation stones, and on the stones were written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
