The Lord All-Powerful says, “Then I will come to you and judge you. I will be quick to testify against those who take part in evil magic, adultery, and lying under oath, those who cheat workers of their pay and who cheat widows and orphans, those who are unfair to foreigners, and those who do not respect me.

I tell you this, and I ask God to be my witness that this is true: The reason I did not come back to Corinth was to keep you from being punished or hurt.

Respect the Lord your God and serve him. Be loyal to him and make your promises in his name.

Respect the Lord your God. You must worship him and make your promises only in his name.

My brothers and sisters, above all, do not use an oath when you make a promise. Don’t use the name of heaven, earth, or anything else to prove what you say. When you mean yes, say only yes, and when you mean no, say only no so you will not be judged guilty.

So now, promise me before the Lord that you will show kindness to my family just as I showed kindness to you. Give me some proof that you will do this.

The men said to her, “You must do as we say. If not, we cannot be responsible for keeping this oath you have made us swear.

This is what we must do. We must let them live. Otherwise, God’s anger will be against us for breaking the oath we swore to them.
