After Moses went down from the mountain to the people, he made them prepare themselves for service to God, and they washed their clothes.

On the morning of the third day, there was thunder and lightning with a thick cloud on the mountain. There was a very loud blast from a trumpet, and all the people in the camp trembled.

Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.

The sound from the trumpet became louder. Then Moses spoke, and the voice of God answered him.

No one may come with you or even be seen any place on the mountain. Not even the flocks or herds may eat grass near that mountain.”

It will take only a second—as quickly as an eye blinks—when the last trumpet sounds. The trumpet will sound, and those who have died will be raised to live forever, and we will all be changed.

The Lord himself will come down from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. And those who have died believing in Christ will rise first.

They did not want to hear the command: “If anything, even an animal, touches the mountain, it must be put to death with stones.”

The men in hiding rushed into Gibeah, spread out, and killed everyone in the city with their swords.
