Later, when Moses’ arms became tired, the men put a large rock under him, and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held up Moses’ hands—Aaron on one side and Hur on the other. They kept his hands steady until the sun went down.

Lift up your spears, both large and small, against those who chase me. Tell me, “I will save you.”

As long as Moses held his hands up, the Israelites would win the fight, but when Moses put his hands down, the Amalekites would win.

So Joshua defeated the Amalekites in this battle.

Moses said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you, and anyone who has a disagreement with others can take it to them.”

Make the weak hands strong and the weak knees steady.

And you can help us with your prayers. Then many people will give thanks for us—that God blessed us because of their many prayers.

Pray in the Spirit at all times with all kinds of prayers, asking for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready and never give up. Always pray for all God’s people.

Because you are praying for me and the Spirit of Jesus Christ is helping me, I know this trouble will bring my freedom.

Continue praying, keeping alert, and always thanking God.

Brothers and sisters, pray for us.

You have become weak, so make yourselves strong again.

But when you ask God, you must believe and not doubt. Anyone who doubts is like a wave in the sea, blown up and down by the wind.

Joshua had held his spear toward Ai, as a sign to destroy the city, and did not draw it back until all the people of Ai were destroyed.
