When the Lord goes through Egypt to kill the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the sides and tops of the doorframes, and he will pass over that house. He will not let the one who brings death come into your houses and kill you.

When the angel raised his arm toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord felt very sorry about the terrible things that had happened. He said to the angel who was destroying the people, “That is enough! Put down your arm!” The angel of the Lord was then by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

“I wish you would hide me in the grave; hide me until your anger is gone. I wish you would set a time and then remember me!

So Moses said to the king, “This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight tonight I will go through all Egypt.

The people must take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.

My people, go into your rooms and shut your doors behind you. Hide in your rooms for a short time until God’s anger is finished.

Then the angel of the Lord went out and killed one hundred eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up early the next morning, they saw all the dead bodies.

He said to the man, “Go through Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of the people who groan and cry about all the hateful things being done among them.”

Kill and destroy old men, young men and women, little children, and older women, but don’t touch any who have the mark on them. Start at my Temple.” So they started with the elders who were in front of the Temple.

Do not complain as some of them did; they were killed by the angel that destroys.

It was by faith that Moses prepared the Passover and spread the blood on the doors so the one who brings death would not kill the firstborn sons of Israel.

You have come to Jesus, the One who brought the new agreement from God to his people, and you have come to the sprinkled blood that has a better message than the blood of Abel.

He said to them, “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we mark with a sign the foreheads of the people who serve our God.”

They were told not to harm the grass on the earth or any plant or tree. They could harm only the people who did not have the sign of God on their foreheads.
