Masters, in the same way, be good to your slaves. Do not threaten them. Remember that the One who is your Master and their Master is in heaven, and he treats everyone alike.

We are just like our fellow Jews, and our sons are like their sons. But we have to sell our sons and daughters as slaves. Some of our daughters have already been sold. But there is nothing we can do, because our fields and vineyards already belong to other people.”

He is not nicer to princes than other people, nor kinder to rich people than poor people, because he made them all with his own hands.

I know the Lord will get justice for the poor and will defend the needy in court.

In some places you will see poor people mistreated. Don’t be surprised when they are not treated fairly or given their rights. One officer is cheated by a higher officer who in turn is cheated by even higher officers.

I was angry with my people, so I rejected those who belonged to me. I gave them to you, but you showed them no mercy. You even made the old people work very hard.

In a moment you will again hear the sound of the horns, flutes, lyres, zithers, harps, pipes, and all the other musical instruments. If you bow down and worship the statue I made, that will be good. But if you do not worship it, you will immediately be thrown into the blazing furnace. What god will be able to save you from my power then?”

Anyone who doesn’t bow down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.”

“ ‘You must not cheat your neighbor or rob him. You must not keep a hired worker’s salary all night until morning.

The Lord All-Powerful says, “Then I will come to you and judge you. I will be quick to testify against those who take part in evil magic, adultery, and lying under oath, those who cheat workers of their pay and who cheat widows and orphans, those who are unfair to foreigners, and those who do not respect me.

So the servants went into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.

“After that, the king said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready. I invited those people, but they were not worthy to come.

But suppose that evil servant thinks to himself, ‘My master will not come back soon,’

Then the master will cut him in pieces and send him away to be with the hypocrites, where people will cry and grind their teeth with pain.

“Do to others what you want them to do to you. This is the meaning of the law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets.

Do to others what you would want them to do to you.

You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that is what I am.

Peter began to speak: “I really understand now that to God every person is the same.

For God judges all people in the same way.

To the church of God in Corinth, to you who have been made holy in Christ Jesus. You were called to be God’s holy people with all people everywhere who pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:

Those who were slaves when the Lord called them are free persons who belong to the Lord. In the same way, those who were free when they were called are now Christ’s slaves.

The Lord your God is God of all gods and Lord of all lords. He is the great God, who is strong and wonderful. He does not take sides, and he will not be talked into doing evil.

But remember that anyone who does wrong will be punished for that wrong, and the Lord treats everyone the same.

Masters, give what is good and fair to your slaves. Remember that you have a Master in heaven.

So you must show mercy to others, or God will not show mercy to you when he judges you. But the person who shows mercy can stand without fear at the judgment.

This royal law is found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” If you obey this law, you are doing right.

The pay you did not give the workers who mowed your fields cries out against you, and the cries of the workers have been heard by the Lord All-Powerful.

Samuel said, “Once you didn’t think much of yourself, but now you have become the leader of the tribes of Israel. The Lord appointed you to be king over Israel.
