Soon all the Israelites came to the king and said to him, “Why did our relatives, the people of Judah, steal you away? Why did they bring you and your family across the Jordan River with your men?”

The king said, “If the Lord doesn’t help you, how can I? Can I get help from the threshing floor or from the winepress?”

He said, “May God punish me terribly if the head of Elisha son of Shaphat isn’t cut off from his body today!”

Every wise person acts with good sense, but fools show how foolish they are.

When a wise person takes a foolish person to court, the fool only shouts or laughs, and there is no peace.

A fool talks too much. No one knows the future, and no one can tell what will happen after death.

Think before you speak, and be careful about what you say to God. God is in heaven, and you are on the earth, so say only a few words to God.

I studied and tried very hard to find wisdom, to find some meaning for everything. I learned that it is foolish to be evil, and it is crazy to act like a fool.

When Herod saw that the wise men had tricked him, he was furious. So he gave an order to kill all the baby boys in Bethlehem and in the surrounding area who were two years old or younger. This was in keeping with the time he learned from the wise men.

But the Pharisee was surprised when he saw that Jesus did not wash his hands before the meal.

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were very angry and discussed with each other what they could do to Jesus.

Some Pharisees said, “Why do you do what is not lawful on the Sabbath day?”

So the leading priests made plans to kill Lazarus, too.

On the fourth day they said to Samson’s wife, “Did you invite us here to make us poor? Trick your husband into telling us the answer to the riddle. If you don’t, we will burn you and everyone in your father’s house.”
