Know in your heart that the Lord your God corrects you as a parent corrects a child.

then I will punish their sins with a rod and their wrongs with a whip.

Lord, those you correct are happy; you teach them from your law.

If you do not punish your children, you don’t love them, but if you love your children, you will correct them.

He spoke to you from heaven to teach you. He showed you his great fire on earth, and you heard him speak from the fire.

But be careful! Watch out and don’t forget the things you have seen. Don’t forget them as long as you live, but teach them to your children and grandchildren.

Obey the commands of the Lord your God, living as he has commanded you and respecting him.
