There were only seventy of your ancestors when they went down to Egypt, and now the Lord your God has made you as many as the stars in the sky.

And if he chose them by grace, it is not for the things they have done. If they could be made God’s people by what they did, God’s gift of grace would not really be a gift.

This is what real love is: It is not our love for God; it is God’s love for us. He sent his Son to die in our place to take away our sins.

The potter can make anything he wants to make. He can use the same clay to make one thing for special use and another thing for daily use.

It does not belong to us, Lord. The glory belongs to you because of your love and loyalty.

So God shows mercy where he wants to show mercy, and he makes stubborn the people he wants to make stubborn.

“Don’t fear, little flock, because your Father wants to give you the kingdom.

But the gate is small and the road is narrow that leads to true life. Only a few people find that road.

Look at Abraham, your ancestor, and Sarah, who gave birth to your ancestors. Abraham had no children when I called him, but I blessed him and gave him many descendants.

The Father has loved us so much that we are called children of God. And we really are his children. The reason the people in the world do not know us is that they have not known him.

The Lord your God has made you grow in number so that there are as many of you as there are stars in the sky.

Because the Lord loved your ancestors, he chose you, their descendants, and he brought you out of Egypt himself by his great strength.

Then God’s people were few in number, and they were strangers in the land.

It wasn’t their swords that took the land. It wasn’t their power that gave them victory. But it was your great power and strength. You were with them because you loved them.

You are descendants of his servant Abraham, the children of Jacob, his chosen people.

Say to them: ‘This is what the Lord God says: When I chose Israel, I made a promise to the descendants of Jacob. I made myself known to them in Egypt, and I promised them, “I am the Lord your God.”
