“You must not use the name of the Lord your God thoughtlessly; the Lord will punish anyone who misuses his name.

Respect the Lord your God. You must worship him and make your promises only in his name.

You must not make a false promise by my name, or you will show that you don’t respect your God. I am the Lord.

My brothers and sisters, above all, do not use an oath when you make a promise. Don’t use the name of heaven, earth, or anything else to prove what you say. When you mean yes, say only yes, and when you mean no, say only no so you will not be judged guilty.

If you say when you make a promise, ‘As surely as the Lord lives,’ and you can say it in a truthful, honest, and right way, then the nations will be blessed by him, and they will praise him for what he has done.”

They say evil things about you. Your enemies use your name thoughtlessly.

Respect the Lord your God and serve him. Be loyal to him and make your promises in his name.

Cursing, lying, killing, stealing and adultery are everywhere. One murder follows another.
