Then everyone in Israel will hear about this and be afraid, and no one among you will ever do such an evil thing again.

Moses said to the people, “Remember this day, the day you left Egypt. You were slaves in that land, but the Lord with his great power brought you out of it. You must not eat bread made with yeast.

Whip those who make fun of wisdom, and perhaps foolish people will gain some wisdom. Correct those with understanding, and they will gain knowledge.

If you punish those who make fun of wisdom, a foolish person may gain some wisdom. But if you teach the wise, they will get knowledge.

“You must also tell the people of Israel these things: ‘If a person in your country gives one of his children to Molech, that person must be killed. It doesn’t matter if he is a citizen or a foreigner living in Israel; you must throw stones at him and kill him.

The Lord said to Moses, “Get all the leaders of the people and kill them in open daylight in the presence of the Lord. Then the Lord will not be angry with the people of Israel.”

The Lord your God is giving you cities in which to live, and you might hear something about one of them. Someone might say

Then everyone will hear about this and will be afraid, and they will not show disrespect anymore.

The rest of the people will hear about this and be afraid, and no one among you will ever do such an evil thing again.

Then all the men in his town must throw stones at him until he dies. Get rid of the evil among you, because then all the people of Israel will hear about this and be afraid.

Tell those who continue sinning that they are wrong. Do this in front of the whole church so that the others will have a warning.

Joshua said, “I don’t know why you caused so much trouble for us, but now the Lord will bring trouble to you.” Then all the people threw stones at Achan and his family until they died. Then the people burned them.
