“But Nebuchadnezzar became too proud and stubborn, so he was taken off his royal throne. His glory was taken away.

But the people would not listen. They were stubborn, just as their ancestors had been who did not believe in the Lord their God.

But Hezekiah did not thank God for his kindness, because he was so proud. So the Lord was angry with him and the people of Judah and Jerusalem.

Zedekiah turned against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had forced him to swear in God’s name to be loyal to him. But Zedekiah became stubborn and refused to obey the Lord, the God of Israel.

Now I know the Lord is greater than all gods, because he did this to those who looked down on Israel.”

You are still against my people and do not want to let them go.

The king sent people to see what had happened to the animals of Israel, and they found that not one of them had died. But the king was still stubborn and did not let the people go.

Pride leads to destruction; a proud attitude brings ruin.

The Lord hates those who are proud. They will surely be punished.

The Lord says, “City of Babylon, go down and sit in the dirt. People of Babylon, sit on the ground. You are no longer the ruler. You will no longer be called tender or beautiful.

Tell this to the king and the queen mother: “Come down from your thrones, because your beautiful crowns have fallen from your heads.”

“This is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: ‘I will soon bring disaster to Jerusalem and the villages around it, as I said I would. This will happen because the people are very stubborn and do not listen at all to what I say.’ ”

“You people living in the town of Dibon, come down from your place of honor and sit on the dry ground, because the destroyer of Moab has come against you. And he has destroyed your strong, walled cities.

“ ‘This is what the Lord says: Those who fight on Egypt’s side will fall. The power she is proud of will be lost. The people in Egypt will fall dead in war from Migdol in the north to Aswan in the south, says the Lord God.

“ ‘So this is what the Lord God says: The tree grew tall. Its top reached the clouds, and it became proud of its height.

“The king of the North will do whatever he wants. He will brag about himself and praise himself and think he is even better than a god. He will say things against the God of gods that no one has ever heard. And he will be successful until all the bad things have happened. Then what God has planned to happen will happen.

“Since the stump of the tree and its roots were left in the ground, your kingdom will be given back to you when you learn that one in heaven rules your kingdom.

All these things happened to King Nebuchadnezzar.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, give praise and honor and glory to the King of heaven. Everything he does is right and fair, and he is able to make proud people humble.

so the male goat became very great. But when he was strong, his big horn broke off and four horns grew in place of the one big horn. Those four horns pointed in four different directions and were easy to see.

I tell you, when this man went home, he was right with God, but the Pharisee was not. All who make themselves great will be made humble, but all who make themselves humble will be made great.”

But encourage each other every day while it is “today.” Help each other so none of you will become hardened because sin has tricked you.

Don’t be stubborn like the king of Egypt and the Egyptians. After God punished them terribly, they let the Israelites leave Egypt.
